Is there a minimum/maximum age limit?
Our ethos is to make professional actor training, as well as industry connections, accessible to everyone. Age ain’t nothing but a number! We believe in creating a class environment that reflects the working industry, so there are no age limits. Our current members range from 13 - 60 years of age. All we ask is that members respect the class environment and treat it as a professionals playground. (Please note: Our coach’s are DBS checked and minors are asked to be accompanied by a chaperone/responsible adult)
Do I need to audition to take part in Actors G.Y.M classes?
No, you have enough auditions in the real world to worry about. We recommend an induction class to see if it’s for you. Our classes are more accessible this way.
Can the Actors G.Y.M help me with Agent Representation?
Yes, Red Lens have partnered with casting agents to ensure our members can get support and guidance, fast tracking them to getting seen and reviewed by agents who will consider them for representation on their books. Lens On You sessions also provide a Casting Profile 1:1 session to get all of your credits/headshots/reels in order.
Do I have to attend every week?
No, life is so variable, so we provide a flexible “drop-in” option.
I’m already taking classes elsewhere, can I still train at the Actors G.Y.M?
Of course. Red Lens train in our own unique way and other classes will do it in their own way. So in fact, we encourage it! Think of it as your training different acting muscles on different days of the week e.g. Upper Body VS Leg Day.
What should I look for in an Acting Class?
You want to leave an acting class feeling different to how you entered. Our members often describe it as “feeling a rush”, “an out of body moment”, or “coming alive inside”. Red Lens encourages individuals to step out of their comfort zone and become vulnerable in a safe and encouraging environment. Our favourite motto is #BeComfortableBeingUncomfortable, so whether it’s the Actors G.Y.M or elsewhere, we recommend choosing a class that leaves you feeling inspired, challenged, and builds your performance confidence!
Am I too young/old to get into acting?
The great thing about this business is that there are roles for everyone. If it’s always been your passion to perform then take that first step and book a G.Y.M Induction or Lens On You Consultation here.
Which acting technique will make me a star?
When they say showbiz isn’t glamorous you’ve got to believe them. The glitz and glamour of fame looks very appealing when your working your way up the ladder, but that’s all it is ‘A LOOK’. When it comes to an acting technique there isn’t one size fits all. It will take some shopping around to find what works for you and brings out the best performance. Our classes help you build up your Actors Kit Bag (mental, emotional and physical strategies to call upon when a performance requires it).
Our training is grounded in Sanford Meisner’s repetition method and Constantin Stanislavski. We believe his exercises allow you to build a meaningful connection with scene partners the quickest, getting you out of your head and into the room, and creates authenticity in your performance.
So focusing on growing your current capabilities as an Actor is where the magic really happens. Finding your own preparation method and developing an acting technique unique to you is what makes you a star.
